FACULTY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Marion Bendixen, PhD, MSN, RN, IBCLC, assistant professor, received a three-year $412,000 K23 award from the National Institute of Nursing Research for her project, “The effect of gestational age at delivery on lactation outcomes in pump-dependent mothers of critically ill infants.”
Ellen Terry, PhD, assistant professor, received a five-year $3.7M R01 award from the National Institute on Aging for her project, “The impact of structural racism and discrimination on chronic pain in Black or African American older adults: Biopsychosocial mechanisms.”
Jennifer Mauney, BSN, MSN, clinical assistant professor, was designated emerging leader for her Children in Disaster National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners special interest group.
Leslie Parker, PhD, APRN, NNP-BC, FAAN, professor, was named a UF Research Foundation Professor, a prestigious designation reserved for 34 of the university’s most distinguished faculty, recognizing their exceptional scholarship and achievement as researchers. Parker was also named the interim associate dean for research and was invited to be the featured faculty speaker at the university-wide doctoral recognition ceremony in May.
Diana Wilkie, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor, co-authored a Lancet Commission publication for her work, “Commission on Sickle Cell Disease: Defining strategies to improve outcomes in sickle cell disease.”
Bryce Catarelli, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, clinical assistant professor, Patrick Nobles, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CNL, clinical assistant professor, and Michael Aull, MSN, RN, CEN, clinical lecturer, published in the Journal of Nursing Administration for their study, “Evaluating Burnout and Resiliency in New Graduate Nurses,” where they explored evidence-based approaches to improving nurse retention, focusing on improving personal and work-related burnout for novice nurses in their first year of employment.
Michael Bumbach, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, RN, clinical assistant professor, received the certification to become a Certified Health Simulation Educator from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
As part of the College of Nursing’s renewed strategic plan and commitment to supporting faculty and staff development, several new awards were designed to bring meaningful recognition to the work being done behind the scenes. In the spring, an award recognition ceremony was held where the following recipients were honored for their work:
