FACULTY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Debra Lyon, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, FNAP, FAAN, executive associate dean and the Kirbo Endowed Chair, was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing’s International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame during the 33rd International Nursing Research Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland, in July.
Leslie Parker, PhD, APRN, NNP-BC, FAANP, was promoted to professor with tenure and Jane Gannon, DNP, CNM, CHSE, assistant dean of simulation-based learning, was promoted to clinical associate professor.
Rene Love, PhD, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, FAAN, associate dean for academic affairs-graduate clinical education, and Laurie Duckworth, PhD, APRN, FNP-C, FAAN, clinical associate professor, were inducted as American Academy of Nursing Fellows. They were formally celebrated for their significant contributions to health care at the academy’s October Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.
Ellen Terry, PhD, assistant professor, received the 2022 College of Nursing Diversity and Inclusion Award. This award recognizes faculty’s leading role in advancing diversity, inclusion and sustainability in the College of Nursing and/or in the profession.
Jeanne-Marie Stacciarini, PhD, RN, FAAN, associate dean for diversity, inclusion and engagement, attended the Congress of International Research in Nursing in Porto, Portugal, where she presented on the differences between PhD and DNP programs.
Dany Fanfan, PhD, MSN, RN, assistant professor, received a $400,000 award from the National Institute of Nursing for her career development proposal, “Examining the Gut Microbiome in Haitian Post-Migration to the United States.”
Lisa Domenico, PhD, RN, assistant professor, attended the American Nurses Association, or ANA, Organizational Affiliates meeting and membership meeting in Washington, D.C. She served as the voting member representing the International Nurses Society on Addictions, crafting and voting on policies and future directions related to racial reckoning, nurse staffing, verbal abuse and workplace violence, and the impact of climate change on health, as well as electing the members of the incoming ANA board.
Lakeshia Cousin, PhD, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, assistant professor, received the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center’s, or OAIC, Junior Scholar Award for her study, “A Pilot Feasibility Study of Gratitude Journaling Intervention to Enhance Well-being and Exercise Readiness in Older African American Female Breast Cancer Survivors.” Supported through the UF OAIC Pepper Center Research Education Core, the aim is to foster the development of research and leadership skills of promising junior scientists.
Staja “Star” Booker, PhD, RN, assistant professor, received the Most Cited Research Article Award 2022 for the American Society for Pain Management Nursing’s official journal “Pain Management Nursing.”
STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Jennifer Pruitt, PhD student, received project funding through the Clinical and Translational Science Institute TL1 Predoctoral Training Program and was named a CTSI Trainee. Her research will focus on examining glucose levels in babies born to diabetic pregnancies, as well as how this affects the function of fetal blood vessels.
PhD students Hussah Bubshait, Tarah Nelson, Olatunde Madandola and Fatmah Alamoudi (not pictured), as well as DNP student Andrea Hefner, attended the Graduate Nursing Student Academy Aug. 4-5 in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme was Charting a Future for Nursing Through Innovation. Hefner also presented a poster on her research titled, “Escaping Educational Constraints: An Immersive Escape Room Experience in a Maternal and Children’s Health Curriculum.
