FACULTY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Jane Gannon, DNP, CNM, CHSE, assistant dean of simulation-based learning, and colleagues from the College of Nursing Jacksonville campus presented an hour-long workshop to a standing-room-only audience at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare in Los Angeles.
Michael Aull, MSN, BSN, clinical lecturer, and Patrick Nobles, DNP, FNP-BC, CNL, clinical assistant professor, published an article in The Journal of Nursing Administration and received subsequent media coverage by WCJB TV20 for their work. Their article, “The Academic Partnership Unit: Educating, Recruiting, and Retaining BSN Nurses,” describes how the unit, an evidence-based clinical education program designed to train and retain BSN-prepared nurses, can be used to meet the crucial challenges of nurse recruitment facing the profession today.
Sharon Adams, DNP, CNM, APRN, clinical assistant professor, was informed that she will be inducted into the fellowship of the American College of Certified Nurse Midwives for her distinction in leadership, clinical excellence, scholarship and research, and professional achievement.
Anna McDaniel, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean, assumed the inaugural Linda Harman Aiken Chair.
Debra Lyon, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, FNAP, FAAN, executive associate dean and the Kirbo Endowed Chair, was notified that she will be inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing’s International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame in July. Only 32 individuals will be inducted this year, joining the 238 previously inducted nurse researchers. Read more here!
Sandra Citty, PhD, RN, APRN-BC, clinical associate professor, appeared in a symposium panel in Seattle for the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition’s conference on nutrition science and practice on the topic “Optimizing Nutrition Support: Advancements in Indirect Calorimetry and Digital Tools.”
Lakeshia Cousin, PhD, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, assistant professor, co-chaired a panel with the UF Health Cancer Center on the social determinants of breast cancer and evidence-based strategies that promote health equity. Cousin also received an Institutional CTSI Scholar Award funded by the UF Health Cancer Center.
Karen Reed, MSN, DHSc, RN, CNE, CNL, CRRN, clinical assistant professor, was named a Fulbright Specialist.
Lisa Scarton, PhD, RN, assistant professor, received a one-year, $80,300 subcontract award from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities for 25% effort on an existing R21 project at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Scarton joins the project “Exploring Food Insecurity as a Social Determinant of Health Among American Indian and Alaska Native Adolescents at Risk for Gestational Diabetes” to examine the relationship between food insecurity and healthy eating self-efficacy and behaviors among American Indian adolescent girls.
Star Booker, PhD, RN, assistant professor, was selected for the 2022 Excellence Award for Assistant Professors at UF. She was one of 10 recipients selected from various colleges across the university. This is the first time in 10 years that a College of Nursing faculty member has received this award.
Ellen Terry, PhD, assistant professor, was invited into the 2022 BRAINS (Broadening the Representation of Academic Investigators in NeuroScience) Fellows Program. BRAINS is a national program dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion in neuroscience. As part of this honor, she will attend the BRAINS symposium in August, just outside of Seattle, Washington, and will receive training in topics such as leadership, teamwork and time management.
Ellen was also selected for the 2022 International Association for the Study of Pain Special Interest Group Junior Investigator Award for Pain in Older Persons. The award will be presented at the virtual SIG meeting held in August.
Michaela Hogan, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, clinical assistant professor, was awarded the Nursing Faculty Research Enhancement Award for 2022-2023. Through this award, established by former faculty member Molly Dougherty, she will participate in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, or MBSR, Foundations and MBSR Teacher Advancement Intensive courses to enhance her knowledge and skills in MBSR intervention.
Saun-Joo Yoon, PhD, RN, associate professor, and Michael Maymi, DNP, APRN, CPNP-AC, CCRN, CNE, clinical assistant professor, were named the 2022 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty recipients by UF College of Nursing undergraduate students. They join four other UF College of Nursing faculty members as previous DAISY Award winners.
Jane M. Carrington, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAMIA, Dorothy M. Smith Endowed Chair, was named department chair for the Department of Family, Community and Health System Science.
