The College of Nursing mourns the passing of these Gator Nurse alumni.
Darlene Mills Perryman (BSN 1994, MSN 1996),
71, of Grand Island, Florida, passed away March 27, 2020. She served as a nurse practitioner and caregiver throughout her career.
Susan Mary Hanrahan (BSN 1981),
62, of Satellite Beach, Florida, passed away Aug. 20, 2021. Her nursing career at Alexandria Hospital (now part of INOVA Health) spanned 33 years, and she was instrumental in the development and teaching of childbirth and new mother education classes and an online pregnancy management system.
Karina Lynn Simonson Pitcher (MSN 1996, DNP 2012),
50, of Rockledge, Florida, passed away Sept. 10, 2021. She worked as an advanced practice registered nurse in family practice for over 25 years, touching many lives in Gainesville, Tampa and Melbourne.
Dawn Marie Miller (MSN 2004),
64, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away Sept. 25, 2021. She worked in health care for over 50 years, most recently as an advanced practice registered nurse. During her career, she served in private practice (psychiatry/mental health) and was the sole proprietor of Hopespring Health in Gainesville.
Carolyn Elizabeth Hendrick Matthews (BSN 1978),
64, of Eustis, Florida, passed away Oct. 9, 2021. She was a registered nurse for 42 years and was also a nurse educator at Lake Sumter State College for 29 years, where she helped develop many new programs, including a simulation laboratory.
Sandra “Sandi” A. Harwell (MSN 1990),
73, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away Oct. 24, 2021. During her career, she worked in both the hospital and private practice settings and then became involved in education.
Mary Ann McGovern (MSN 1968),
75, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, passed away Nov. 14, 2021. Mary Ann began in nursing while also teaching childbirth education classes, before moving on to teach nursing at Pace University, the University of Wisconsin and Salem State University.
Willie Mae Edwards Session (MSN 1987),
78, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away Nov. 26, 2021. Willie Mae retired after 27 years at Halifax Hospital. Following her time at Halifax, she joined the educational staff at Bethune Cookman and retired as the dean of nursing.
Mary Louise “Marilou” Cmaylo (BSN 1969),
74, of Wausau, Wisconsin, passed away Dec. 11, 2021. She spearheaded the kidney stone center before working with cancer patients. She also managed the VA in Salem, Virginia, was an administrator for the VA in St. Cloud, Minnesota and later in Philadelphia.
Shelly Hicks Law (DNP 2015),
32, of Bell, Florida, passed away Dec. 30, 2021. Following graduation from UF with her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, Shelly had a very successful practice.
Connie Granneman Reed (BSN 1975),
70, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away Dec. 31, 2021. Connie became a registered nurse and worked in the neonatal intensive care unit at UF Health Shands Hospital. She became a pediatric nurse and was with Clearwater Pediatrics for most of her career.
Karen Anne Morrow (BSN 1982),
62, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away Oct. 23, 2021.
