Linda L. Joel-Estevez
Linda L. Joel-Estevez (BSN 1966), 67, of Cooper City, Florida, passed away Sept. 13, 2012. After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, she went on to earn two master’s degrees. Linda became a staff nurse midwife in the first hospital based midwifery service in the United States, Community Hospital in Springfield, Ohio.
Lila K. Gunter
Lila K. Gunter (BSN 1979, MSN 1986), 59, of Port Saint Joe, Florida, passed away April 21, 2017. Lila worked for Grady Memorial Hospital, where she had the opportunity to travel the world providing medical care and supplies to those in need. Shortly before passing, she completed her PhD, with a goal to educate a new generation of nurses in the area of Pain Management.
Gary R. Boyce
Gary R. Boyce (BSN 1975, MSN 1980), 80, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away July 24, 2020.
Cynthia Carter Amy
Cynthia Carter Amy (BSN 1975, MSN 1981), 67, of St. Augustine Beach, Florida, passed away Sept. 7, 2020. She worked as an advanced registered nurse practitioner at the VA hospitals in Gainesville and Lake City for 30 years, in addition to serving as a volunteer at Haven Hospice in Gainesville and St. Augustine.
Lorine Faye (Johnson) Waters
Lorine Faye (Johnson) Waters (BSN 1981), 79, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away Dec. 24, 2020. She worked at Alachua General Hospital and Sunland Training Center before serving as a nurse at the North Florida Reception Center in Lake Butler, where she retired in 2001.
Sandra Hobbs Pisani
Sandra Hobbs Pisani (BSN 1965, MSN 1966), 85, of Panama City, Florida, passed away Dec. 29, 2020. She was the director of nursing for the University of Minnesota psychiatric units, and later taught at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Patricia (Pat) Maher
Patricia (Pat) Maher (PhD 2004), 78, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away March 5, 2021. She worked as a medical technologist and with special needs children for many years before serving as an education administrator for the Orange County Public School system.
Lois Eileen Tuey
Lois Eileen Tuey (MSN 1966), 84, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away March 7, 2021. She worked as a psychiatric nurse in Connecticut, North Carolina and the Jacksonville Developmental Center.
Lucy L. Lagrone-Long
Lucy L. Lagrone-Long (BSN 1980), 66, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away March 13, 2021. She worked as a pediatric nurse, ICU nurse, hospice nurse, camp nurse and with the Baptist Nursing Fellowship of Florida. She also served six churches across the country and in Belgium with her husband, John, a theology graduate.
Paul Glen Berry
Paul Glen Berry (BSN 1987), 73, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away March 22, 2021. He was drafted to the Navy, serving in Vietnam from 1968-1971. He began his nursing career at Mercy Hospital before re-enlisting in the United States Navy Nurse Corps, where he served in Guam and Spain. He completed his BSN while still in service and retired from the U.S. Navy in 1991, having achieved the rank of lieutenant. Paul then worked as a registered nurse at Heart and Vascular Care before he took a health facility surveyor position for the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals.
Joyce Lee Hayman
Joyce Lee Hayman (MSN 1968), 75, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away March 25, 2021. She worked for several years in Atlanta, Birmingham and Washington, D.C. As a dedicated care giver, she taught patients how to live with and manage their diseases.
Marilyn McKim Barnes
Marilyn McKim Barnes (MSN 1977), 70, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away May 2, 2021. Marilyn served as the head nurse of the Alachua County School District for more than 12 years prior to becoming the coordinator of clinical programs at the UF Child Protection Team and working to protect abused children for over 20 years.
