Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusion and Global Affairs Jeanne- Marie Stacciarini, PhD, RN, FAAN, was selected as a University of Florida Research Foundation Professor, one of 32 UF faculty members honored. The UFRF recognition goes to faculty who have a distinguished current record of research and a strong research agenda that is likely to lead to continuing distinction in their fields. The three-year award includes a salary supplement and research grant.
Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs Denise Schentrup, DNP, APRN, BC, was elected to a three-year term with the National Association of Rural Health Clinics, or NARHC, Board of Directors. The NARHC strives to improve quality and cost-effective health care in rural and underserved areas by working with Congress, federal agencies and rural health allies to promote, expand and protect the interests of clinics in the Rural Health Clinics Program.
Clinical Assistant Professor Jane Gannon, DNP, CNM, CNL, passed the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator exam by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, whose mission is to promote competence, recognition and development of health care simulationists through standards and processes for certification within the global health care simulation community.
Debra Lyon, PhD, RN, FAAN, executive associate dean and the Thomas M. and Irene B. Kirbo Endowed Chair, was selected for funding by the UF Health Cancer Center, the Cancer Therapeutics and Host Response Research Program and the Cancer Population Sciences Research Program. Lyon is a principal investigator, along with Coy Heldermon with the College of Medicine, on the project titled “Phase I/IIa Study of Pharmacokinetics and Safety of Epidiferphane™ and Taxanes in Breast Cancer Patients.” They will aim to provide human data on the effects of chemotherapy-induced toxicity, which could improve quality of life for breast cancer patients.
Clinical Assistant Professor Anne Dillard, DNP, BSN, MSN, RN, AGCNS-BC, was identified as a faculty member who has been particularly inspiring or influential by a recent Anderson Scholar Award recipient. The UF College of Liberal Arts and Sciences awards Anderson Scholar Certificates to any UF student who has maintained a full, uninterrupted course load and at least a 3.90 GPA during their first two years at UF.
Clinical Assistant Professor Karen Reed, MSN, DHSc, RN, CNE, CNL, CRRN, received a Faculty Enhancement Opportunity award for the spring. The funding will allow her to travel to Bangkok, Thailand, this summer to establish a Fulbright Exchange Program at Chulaongkorn University Faculty of Nursing. Her work will strengthen the college’s partnership with Chula and provide opportunities for future faculty and student exchange and research collaboration.
DNP student Tonya Powell and Clinical Assistant Professor Stacia Hays, APRN, DNP, CPNP, CCTC, were among the select group of nurse practitioners invited to the Florida House of Representatives’ opening session in Tallahassee. They were there to show support for HB 607, which calls for authorization of autonomous practice for nurse practitioners in Florida.
