For the seventh year, the UF College of Nursing has been awarded a Jonas Nurse Scholar grant to help fund the doctoral studies of one student for two years. Janet Lopez, who is in her third year of the Ph.D. program at the College of Nursing, was selected by the college’s faculty to receive the Jonas Veterans Healthcare $10,000 scholarship.

Lopez’s research focuses on understanding racial and cultural variations of family caregivers’ problem-solving abilities and caregiver outcomes. She also serves as an interventionist for a research study at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. She is one of 200 Jonas Scholars for the 2018-2020 cohort and joins more than 1,000 Jonas Scholar alumni representing 157 universities across all 50 states.

As a grant recipient, the College of Nursing joins Jonas Philanthropies’ efforts to improve the quality of health care by investing in nursing scholars whose research and clinical foci specifically address our nation’s most urgent needs. The grant empowers and supports nursing students with financial assistance, leadership development and networking to expand the pipeline of future nursing faculty, researchers and advanced practice nurses.
