Neff and Colleagues Publish Article on Nurse Staffing

Associate Professor Donna Neff, PhD, RN, is the co-author of new research published in Health Care Management Review. Neff’s article, “The Effects of Nurse Staffing on Hospital Financial Performance: Competitive versus Less Competitive Markets,” found hospitals have increased financial performance when they have high RN-to-patient ratios. Damian Everhart, the primary author, is a College of Public Health and Health Professions doctoral student and a registered nurse.

 

UF Nursing Professor Named Research Foundation Professor

Associate Professor Charlene A. Krueger, PhD, RN, has been named a UF Research Foundation Professor for 2012-2015.

Krueger was one of 33 UF faculty members recognized for a distinguished record of research and a strong research agenda that will likely lead to continued distinction in her field.

Krueger has focused her research in areas related to biobehavioral measures of the premature infant and fetus. She was previously awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation to examine fetuses, and preterm infants’ capability of learning and remembering.

The three-year award, includes a $5,000 annual salary supplement as well as a one-time $3,000 grant.

 

Nursing Students Receive Scholarships

Accelerated BSN students Lindsey Johnston and Kara Mercer were awarded Foundation of the National Student Nurse Association’s Promise of Nursing scholarships for the 2012- 2013 academic year. Mercer and Johnston were among 59 students nationally and eight within Florida to receive the $1,000 scholarships, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson.

The recipients were selected based on academic achievement, financial need and involvement in community health activities and student nurse organizations. They were recognized at the opening ceremony of the National Student Nurses Association’s annual convention in Pittsburgh April 11.

Accelerated BSN student Angelica Estrella and doctoral student Latifat Oginni received scholarships from the Greater Gainesville Black Nurses Association Inc. The scholarships were presented at the association’s 10th annual Scholarship and Awards Luncheon that is held every year to celebrate National Nurses Week.
